Spot welder:
This unit is used to connect cells together to make battery packs. Cells are connected together with thin nickel strips (0.005") from terminal to terminal. The welder electrode tips pass a brief, high current pulse through the nickel and on to the surface of the cell melting the two metals and welding them together. This allows various configurations of custom battery packs for DIY hobby projects, replacing battery packs in cordless electric drills and screwdrivers, portable radios, cordless vacuum cleaners, electric bike projects and so on.
To operate the unit you will need an external variable DC power supply in the range 10 to 16V with a max current output of 5 to 10 amps. (Lower current supplies will lengthen the time between consecutive welds). The unit operates by charging and discharging approx 2 Farad capacitors through copper electrodes in a single pulse when a foot switch is depressed as seen on the video below.
These are the specifications:
Capacitance: 2.0F
Power Supply Input: max 16V, 5 to 10Amps
Operating range: 10V to 16V
Digital voltmeter display
Enclosure dimensions: 14"x10"x5"
Over-voltage alerting circuit, if input voltage is higher than 16v, alarm will sound
Reverse voltage alerting circuit, if power input polarity is wrong, alarm will sound
Unit is supplied with:
Two hard copper electrodes with 8-gauge cables and connectors
Foot switch
Instructions for assembly of the kit and operating instructions

Welded objects:
The spot welder can be used to weld thin sheet metal for various applications. Works well with thin nickel and titanium sheet. You can send us a sample sheet and we can test it out for you.
Available as DIY kit only.
New: Send us battery cells and we will weld it into the battery pack for you.
Also Spot Welder plans are now available for $25 CAD, will be sent to you as e-mail attachment.
